We are excited to announce that the third national Community Gardens and Allotments Week will be taking place in Ireland from 11th – 18th October 2025!

We are running this event to raise awareness of allotments and community gardens, to highlight how important they are and to detail the huge benefits of community gardening for communities, individuals, biodiversity and the local environment. 

The 2025 theme is “Growing Together” and we hope as many allotments, community gardens, school gardens, tidy towns and local growers in Ireland can get involved. Last year’s National Week involved over 30 events organised throughout the island of Ireland, encouraged discussions on community growing, and saw the inclusion of community gardens in law for the first time in the Planning and Development Act. This came about from years of advocacy work, submissions to public consultations, Oireachtas Committee presentations, meetings with government ministers, and more!

To register an event for National Community Gardens and Allotments 2025, send details of your event to info@cgireland.org, including the address of your event (or online link if virtual), and the time of the event. We will then publicise the event on our website.

Some examples of activities during the week would be: 

1) Organise a tour or an event (in person or virtual!) at your allotments or community gardens! 

2) Hold an online discussion or start a local network of community gardens and allotments! This could be something as simple as giving gardens an opportunity to meet and network, and share ideas.

3) Post photos and videos online during the week about what actions you are taking to promote growing together at your allotment or community garden!  

4) Publicise the week – we will be posting information on our social media in the coming weeks, so please share and like! #NationalAllotmentsWeek #NationalCommunityGardensWeek

If you don’t have social media, you can email us any photos or videos and we can post them online and tag your community garden or allotment.

To align with the start of Allotments and Community Gardens Week 2025, we are currently organising our Yearly Gathering of Community Growers.  

This year it will take place in Ballybane Community Resource Centre, Galway city where we will be visiting and seeing first hand the amazing growing activities and community gardens at Ballybane and Merlin Woods!
